Czech Republic’s Roman Cervenka may uplift Calgary Flames’ forward line in his first season
Calgary Flames, which play in the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL), have a new and interesting addition to their team which may make their forward line much stronger and much more dangerous for other teams.
They have brought in a new centre in their team, Roman Cervenka, a Czech Republic international, professional hockey player, who would be playing in NHL for the first time.
Flames are expecting him to take care of their team after the departure of Olli Jokinen, one of the top forwards last season, who played all 82 regular season games and scored many goals and assists to help his team. 33-year-old Jokinen, who belongs to Finland,
scored 54 points in the first season for Calgary Flames and 61 in the second and last season.
The Calgary, Alberta based side would be looking to Cervenka to replace Jokinen perfectly and pair up with their star winger Jarome Iginla, who is one of the top scorers of the NHL with more than 1000 games and 1000 points to his name.
John Weisbrod, assistant general manager of the Calgary Flames and director of player personnel, had a lot of good things to say about Cervenka as he was talking to NHL.com. In Weisbrod’s opinion, the Czech International is a very skilful player and he would
turn out to be one of the best forwards of the league as he said,
"Cervenka's more of a one-on-one type, skill-oriented player. He's played with high-caliber players to much success, and he was at a point in his career where he seemed genuinely hungry to make his run at the NHL. He really wants to play in the best league
in the world. I think he is going to put his best foot forward, and we'll see how it pans out."
The Prague, Croatia born player started his NHL career with HC Slavia Praha in Czech Republic’s league and player there for six years, before moving to Avangard Omsk in Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
The 5-foot-11, 187 pounder centre has also represented Czech Republic international team in 2009, 2010, 2011 world championships and 2010 Winter Olympic Games.
