Czechs and Austrian men book slots in semi-finals of CEV Continental Cup – Beach Volleyball news
The Zonal Phase tournament of the CEV Beach Volleyball Continental Cup took centre stage on Friday, September 30, in Tenerife, Spain. The opening day of the tournament featured the quarter-final matches among teams from Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria,
and Serbia. The hosts Spain and Norway will join the action at the semi-final stage, scheduled to start on Saturday.
The Spanish Island of Tenerife is hosting the Zonal Phase tournament of Pool B, which has a total of six teams.
Tandems from Czech Republic and Austria clinched success on the opening day of the tournament. They demonstrated wonderful performances in their quarter-final matches as Czech Republic ousted Slovakia, while Austria edged out Serbia. The important semi-final
qualifying matches attracted scores of fans to the venue, who enjoyed the live beach volleyball action.
In the next run, Austrian duos will take on hosts Spain while Czech Republic will be playing against Norway in the semi-finals, set to be held on Saturday.
Czech Republic
The Czech tandems appeared in three matches on Friday, September 30. In the first match, the pairing of Jan Dumek and Martin Tichy beat Michal Hovorka and Jan Namesansky of Slovakia in straight sets. They sent 21-14, 21-16 onto the board and bagged the first
win of the day. Afterwards, their compatriots, Jindrich Weiss and David Kufa, came marching in and defeated another Slovak pair of Marek Jany and Matej Herich in similar fashion. The match lasted for two sets and finally revealed the Czech pair as the victorious
side with 2-0 (21-13, 21-18). The third match once again featured Dumek/Tichy against Jany/Herich. The Slovakian duo gave a good competition to the Czechs but finally ended up with a 0-2 (23-25, 20-22) defeat. Success in all three matches at the quarter-final
stage confirmed Czech Republic’s participation in the next phase of the semi-final match, scheduled on Saturday.
Austria
Teams from Austria also did exceptionally well and settled for the next phase matches. Austrian pairs put up against Serbian tandems and downed them with a better performance. In the first fixture, Clemens Doppler/Robin Seidl of Austria faced off Dejan Jovic/Jovan
Markovic in two-set match. The former duo displayed some great action on the sand and dominated the Serbs. They posted 21-18, 21-11 in two consecutive sets and won the first match.
The pairing of Alexander Horst and Matthias Mellitzer from Austria stamped a speedy 2-0 (21-9, 21-19) win over Serbians Stefan Basta and Igor Tesic in the next match. The Austrian side hindered the performance of their opponents by showing their attacking
power, superb digging and aggressive offence.
The winning duo of Doppler/Seidl returned to action in the third match against the Serbian team and wrapped up a 2-0 (21-13, 21-16) victory.
