  1. Most countries have signed the United Nations Human Bill of Rights (written by Eleanor Roosevelt).  It is against extreme and inhumane punishment and the death penalty is seen as extreme & inhumane.  The USA is 1 of only about 3 western countries that has not signed the above Bill of Rights.

  2. no, but i did know that a country needs to make social advances before they are admitted.

  3. Because us Europeans are not blood thirsty murderers like some places...You's know who you's are

  4. The EU has adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as its basis for the treatment of people in any form.  It is the center of the reason why they require the abolition of the death penalty prior to accession to the organization.  Inherent in the UDHR is the idea that the death penalty is a "cruel and inhumane" punishment that is considered a violation of human rights.  Hence, all members must abide by this or be found in violation of human rights.

Interestingly enough, the United States does not abide by this, nor has it recognized this part of the treaty.  So technically, the US is a human rights violator for the death penalty.  It is also considered one under the use of children as soldiers as US citizens can join the armed forces, with parental consent, at the age of 17 even though the treaty strictly prohibits entry until the age of 18.  Go figure.

  5. Well I guess that just scrooes the U.S. chances!  And we're gonna need to go somewhere after our currency collapses.

  6. I dont think that the death penalty is right.  I really like that they require members to stop it before they are allowed in.  It just shows how more advanced the EU is over the US...... again (did someone say dollar?)
