D&C question for a biopsy of my uterine lining due to irregular periods/bleeding.?

I am 44 years old. For several months now my periods have been coming twice to three times per month. Some heavy, some not and some with clotting. I saw my gyno today and he tried to take a biopsy in the office, but I have some scar tissue or something blocking the cervix opening (or something) that caused me extreme pain when he attempted it. He said he could not even really penetrate it there to get to the tissue he needed to biopsy because of my pain. Therefore, the D&C is now scheduled for outpatient at the hosp and I will be completed put to sleep. Does anyone have knowledge of this procedure and what could be causing my problem? I have no sweats or any other pre-menapausal symptoms. Thank you in advance.

Unless you really trust this doctor I would first go and get another opinion. If possible, a good female gyno. Find a friend maybe who knows of a good one. or ask yahoo. anyhow, I would be pretty upset if a doctor tried to cut anything, no matter how he thinks it so small a procedure he thinks it is. When you cut tissue, any tissue, but imagine inflamed tissue of course there is pain. Get another Doctor to do a sonogram and maybe do an simple surgery procedure where they put a laprascope inside by your belly button. Check for endometriosis, cysts, thickening of lining all of those things. Are you in pain with your periods and did you have any trouble conceiving? you would be under a general and it takes an hour.

The procedure is simple, so stop worrying about that. I'm not a Doctor, but endimitriosis is possible.

Almost sounds like the beginning or menopause. Then again you might be looking at a partial hysto. There is nothing wrong with a partial. You should be able to leave the ovaries and have not problems. I have never had a D & C but I have had the hysto and I'm 43.

I am going thru the same as u. cltting, dizziness too, heavy flow but once a month. was at my gynec yesterday . going for a scan of uterus today. complete blood test too. I did a pap smear without problems. Will get the results to day. I am 46 Hope all goes well for you and me.!
