Alright...so I was bored and decided to do a random google search on my name. As I was sifting through the pages, I noticed that it appears on this list:

=P

I looked up the word 'chav' on urbandicitonary.com and have a vague idea of what it means. Haha! I'm not bothered...but now I'm kind of curious...What exactly makes something a 'chav name'? Can you give me some examples?

  1. In short - The sort of person who would name a child Mercedes

  2. If you live in the US, it roughly translates as a redneck, gangster or s**t.

They march around town, loitering on corners in large groups smoking, doing drugs and talking very loudly about football and soap operas. Chavs are generally viewed as an ignorant under-class with a propensity for criminal or loutish behaviour.

The male 'chavs' usually dress in Burberry jackets, baseball caps and baggy trousers, with a red spotty face and close cropped hair.

The female 'chavs' are usually covered head to toe in 'bling' (fake jewellery), with iron-straight hair usually dyed in platinum blond color or reddish-brown. They usually wear the same kind of thing as male 'chavs'.

In other words, they are the British lower class. Here is an example of some chavs:

  3. lol

    lol

    lol

    Thats dead funny.

i didn't realise they didn't have chans in America, chavs are basically just people who wear chavvy clothes lol and act chavvy.

    names like Mckenzie and mercedes.

  4. I may be wrong, but I think it means a lowerclass person who is trying to act upperclass (or even middleclass) and is very tacky.

  5. A CHAV is a working-class youth, especially one associated with aggression, poor education, and a perceived "common" taste in clothing and lifestyle...

"Chav names" are names that are trying to be "cool" but they're so common that they're not.

When I think of Chav names I think of boys: Mackenzie, Riki, J.J, Jayden, Hayden, Darren, Connor, Callum etc and girls: Shannon, Charlene, Mackenzie, Gemma, Frankie and Jodie.
