I was just wondering if any of you played it. And i'm curious. What kind of character/characters do you have? what level are they? have you become attached to them as you might do when reading a really good book? i know i have because with only 3 sessions of D&D left before we rap up, i wish it wasnt ending. i have a human male who is a 22nd level Cavalier, 10th level healer. and another male who is a 30th level bard, 15th level mage, and 10th level theif.

  1. The great part of RPGs is that the "game" does not end!!!!

Only the campaign. (Unless your group quits playing)The basis of the game is that each world (set up or designed by a different DM) is compatible due to the "guidelines of the game.

The "red box" D&D set and the others put out by the original creators made this clear. Even the later editions never lost that goal even if it created more of a strick guideline.

I have had many characters. Some have left the world where they adventured, in glorius ways and some not so glorius. Other characters, I have roleplayed their retirement due to old age and/or power level.Others are waiting for new adventures to arise. And still others played til they were asended into the appropriate plane.

I have had attachments to characters, many of which I played for years.

    As a note:

It seems many persons on Answers say they have played D&D for many years but have no basic knowledge of the game or its origins.

  2. I'm played D&D off and on in all its incarnations since 1975. Beacuse my work frequently takes me out of town for lengthy periods, I don't play with a regular group but instead play mainly online and at game conventions. In the Living Greyhawk RPGA campaign (just wrapping up this year), my primary PC was a paladin/cleric/warpriest who retired out of the campaign as a high-ranking officer in the region's royal army and the head of her diety's church. Now anxiously waiting on the rollout of the new 4E Living Realms campaign next month, tho still deciding what my first PC will be - I'll probably make at least one of each role (maybe even one of each class) and see what's most needed at the first table I play.

  3. wow that still exist.. yeah I used to play it like forever ago, but i can't remember all of that I know I was a havling of some sort.  Ummm... I would say get a life a real one not one that you level up. sorry just my opinion.

  4. Everyone in my family hates it because there's some demonic cult that supports it. But personally I'm happy to simply play Oblivion and Warhammer.

  5. Well, when a game of D&D ends, unlike a movie or book, you don't have to wait years for more.  Roll up some new characters and you are ready to go!

I've played D&D since the old Red box Basic set game, though I mostly ditched it for other RPGs (there are a ton out there) and came back with 3rd edition, and am now trying 4th edition.

The last game characters I had included a Human Healer/Monk and a Catfolk Rogue who was a spy - though I was likely to wind up moving him into a Kensai prestige class after he pledged his service to another PC - a street thief who, though she didn't know it previously, might be the illegitimate daughter and only heir of the now murdered king my Rogue used to serve.

The current 4e game I'm playing is being done much more board-gamish, and just being played with my girlfriend and I.  I've got a druidish Elf Wizard who works with the natural elements, and a human ranger who's pretty grumpy about being sent from duty in his city to some forsaken borderlands town.

Yep, RPGs can get a lot of depth and really interesting stories to them.  And they are a great way to spend some time laughing and having fun with friends!

These days though, I tend to prefer boardgames.  Easier and less overhead to play.  But RPGs are still great.

And both beat sitting around rotting one's brain on the latest reality show!
