D.J. Augustin shines as the Bobcats defeat the Sixers 100-97
D.J. Augustin got the battle started as the Charlotte Bobcats get a home advantage against the Philadelphia 76ers, Thursday night. The Charlotte Bobcats trounced the Philadelphia 76ers as the latter was trampled in a 100-97 loss. The game took place at Time
Warner Cable Arena where more than 14,000 basketball fans gathered up to watch the game for a duration of 2 hours and 12 minutes. The lead changed six times during the stretch and the contest was tied nine times.
Augustin contributed 31 points while Gerald Henderson narrowed the paths for the Sixers to push them out in the defeat. Thaddeus Young was the leading scorer of the losing team, going for 21 points in a duration of 29 minutes. Andre Iguodala added 19, going
7-for-11 from the court and Jrue Holiday contributed 13 points in the clash.
Augustin collected his 31 points in an offensive play. Nazr Mohammed scored 15 in an awesome game from off the bench and 14 points came from Stephen Jackson who went 4-for-5 from the free throw line for the winners.
The game truly belonged to Augustin as the 23-year-old gathered up his career high 31 points down the line. It was indeed for him a night to remember.
Play by play
The Bobcats had an offensive start against the Sixers. The Cats truncated with an edgy start, going 30-27 over the Sixers. Charlotte had three 3-pointers in the very opening chapter, all of them coming from Augustin. The second quarter opened with a hook
shot from Young for the Sixers, but that was a momentary joy for them. Augustin later attacked with an offensive edge to take another second quarter edge over the Sixers, 56-50.
The winning team had a rather shocking third quarter and so the Sixers took advantage of that. The scores were tied at 58-all, later to be taken back by Charlotte again. The final quarter was the most crucial one. Both the teams battled to get the lead back
but it was the Bobcats who survived a last quarter surge and stood victorious.
Quote it!
Bobcats coach Paul Silas later complemented Augustin said, "His [Augustin's] confidence level is at an all-time high. He's going to the hoop and he's finishing. That kept us afloat in the first half. It was a great win for us."
Stats
The victors went 10-for-12 from the free throw line in the final quarter of the game that also included their last eight points of the game. However, the Sixers were not in their form.
Turning point
Gerald Henderson committed a foul on Iguodala’s three point attempt later, that he was very disappointed about. He later surged again to make up for it with just 26 seconds left in the game. He pushed the lead to 96-93 as he flared up a 19-foot jumper for
his team. He hit six straight shots for his team in a high pitch defence thus edging them over the rivals.
Hottest player
Henderson made six straight points in the final quarter. He scored nine of his 11 points in that very quarter that kept Philadelphia out of their reach. He clinched a jumper at the very exact moment to give his team a high pitch edge over the losing team.
The player went 5-for-8 in shooting from the field and showed marvellous defence against the rivals.
