D.J. Lantz outshines at the Bull’s Bridge Golf 2010
New England, apart from hosting the Hartford Hawks Invitational Tournaments in bad weather conditions, also managed to host D.J. Lantz victory on Tuesday. The golfer managed to play an impressive game and out-performed many talented players in the field.
The 2-day event hosted a play with teams and players of top form.
Lantz, who is from the University of Hartford, is a senior transfer and was seen playing an amazing game on his second division tournament I. Lantz won the event firing back-to-back 1 under par rounds of 71. Among the all-star field, Lantz was the only golfer
who managed play two rounds under par, leading to a 142 in card.
The players who were one shot less than the leader are Peter Williamson and Evan Beirne. The golfers from Dartmouth and St. John’s were edged up by the 142 player. The St. John’s Bernie’s 143 played a smart role for its current position. The team overall
scored a 585, which was trailed by Dartmouth, UConn and Hartford who scored a 589, 593 and 599 on the leader board.
The Hartford coach Pete Stankevich says that like every other player at the talented field, they wanted to win the tournament single-handed but achieving a fourth place is also good. He seemed contended with the results and said that the field was highly
competitive but they had a strong finish.
Lantz left off at the Southern New Hampshire last season but came back this season and played exactly the way he used to. In his entire record of SNHU, Lantz has managed to play his best season average amounting to be 74.1 until now. Out of 108 golfers Lantz
finished at the eighth place when he qualified to compete in the NCAA Division II, which was a Regional Tournament. He played as an individual at the tournament finishing at eighth place.
The golfers from Dartmouth and St. John’s who trailed Lantz at the Bull’s Bridge have had a fairly astounding record as well. Williamson is from Dartmouth and is considered to be a junior from Hanover. He received honours of the All-New England as well as
the first-team All-Ivy League from the previous season. The man from St. John’s is Beirne; he is a senior from Milford and is known to attend the Hamden Hall. Last season, Beirne was the selection of the All-Big East Conference.
The whole tournament had been a tussle for the top spot, which resulted in a lot of ties on the leader board.
Peter Ballo, who is the St. John’s sophomore, is also a former standout from the Trinity Catholic High School. The current standout from Stamford was seen tied at the 15th place, while holding a 150 in hands. Ballo scored an even par in the first
round of the tournament. The golfer who carded the even-par is the winner of the IV state Championship held in the year 2009. He won the championship as a senior and was the main reason who led his team, the Crusaders, to hold the state team title.
At the 56th place, Nick Taylor who had been a Pomperaug star formerly, was tied with a 161 on the leader boards. Brian Hughes, who is the UConn sophomore, was also seen tied at the 4th place with a 145. In 2009, Nick Taylor played as
a senior at the Division I state Championship and finished with one stroke following Hughes.
