  1. I have a D40 ... it is amazing for most applications except SPORTS!. Only 3 Af points to track motion. I believe a Canon will offer you better sports capabilties. I believe their EOS Rebels ... the 350D, 400D have 7 or 9 AF points ... it hepls in tracking moving objects in sports. Also eventually you will hae to invest in some good (costly) glass if you get serious with sports shooting.

  2. There's a similar question that I answered just a few lines below in the Cameras section:

The answer I gave there fully applies to you as well!

The only thing I can add to what I said there is to comment "i really wanted a canon because i prefer taking sport shots"

I'm not sure how canon is better for sports. Both Canon Rebel line and Nikon "D" series are equally great at that. They both are capable of fast enough shutter speeds, and all. So you won't be losing any of the sports shooting capabilities with Nikon!

    LEM.

  3. 3 months ago i was behind D40. Now I have a D60, got teasings from my Nikon D40 and D40X friends, now they simply smile at the D60 performance over D40. It could be my skill too, but, the extra price has got to do with it.

So D60 is worth it than D40 even it is just in few points. My pictures are absolute enough to satisfy my night photography when compared to D40 and D40X. :-)

If you can afford go for D80 or stick to D60, you are still with no loss, i sware.

  4. I have a D40 and it's an amazing little camera. It's very capable of most every shooting task. As for a D60, your supplier recommends that because they want to sell a more expensive product. With the money you save by getting a D40, you will be able to purchase another lens or flash unit for the price of the D60. Read this review that will explain fully why a D40 will be better than a D60. http://www.kenrockwell.com/nikon/d60.htm

  5. Nikon D40 Compared to D60

The first comparison is against Nikon’s cheapest current DSLR, the D40. The entry-level D40 is on the surface virtually identical to the D60, with the major difference being resolution: 6 Megapixels versus 10.2. Dig a little deeper though and you’ll find the base sensitivity of the D40 is 200 rather than 100 ISO and crucially for fans of action photography, it inherits the D50’s unusually fast flash sync speed of 1/500. Compare this to the 1/200 flash sync speed of the D60 and most other non-pro DSLRs.

In the D60’s favour, it features anti-dust facilities, Active D-Lighting, eye-sensors to switch the screen off when you’re composing a shot, rotating screen information, stop motion recording, and most importantly of all, the option to buy it with a stabilised kit lens. For most people though the question will be whether you want 10.2 Megapixels and that stabilised kit lens. If so, go for the D60. If not, save yourself some money and go for the cheaper D40 – remember, you can always buy a better stabilised lens in the future.
