DA Points takes home the Shell Houston Open title
DA Points fired a six-under par 66, in the final round of the Shell Houston Open, to claim the second PGA Tour title of his career, on Sunday, March 31, 2013.
The tournament was being staged at the Redstone GC Tournament Course, featuring some of the best PGA Tour players from different parts of the world, vying for a share of US$ 6.2 million prize fund.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Points showed consistency in his game and surged to the top of the leaderboard in the final moments of the tournament.
He started his campaign with a stunning 64 in the opening round. The highlight of his first-round performance included a run of five straight birdies, starting from the 10th hole. He carded a bogey-free 30 on the back nine of the course on day one.
The second round witnessed him recording only one birdie throughout the day. However, it was still a decent performance, as he did not concede a single bogey, and parred each of the remaining 17 holes.
In the third round, he drained three birdie putts, while conceding three bogeys, to record another 71 on his scorecard. Entering the final round, he was sharing the third position on the leaderboard.
He then birdied the second, third and the eighth hole to reach the turn in three under. The back nine of the course witnessed him adding another three strokes to his scorecard, which allowed him to record a one-stroke victory over Henrik Stenson and Billy
Horschel.
“Today was kind of like the last couple of days except I made some putts. I hit it well the last couple days and today I hit maybe one of the best fairway bunker shots of my life on the 2nd hole. I hit a knockdown 5-iron to a back right pin to 7, 8 feet
and made that. It kind of got me going in the right direction,” he explained his game on last day.
“And then on 3 I hit two good shots and made a 25-footer and was like, okay, the putter feels good, swing was starting to feel good, and I played really, really solid,” he added.
