Question:

DAHLIA TUBERS.Im planting pom pom and cactus tubers tomorrow,Aug 8.Do you think they will flower this autumn?

they have shoots sprouting,i know its late,whaddya think?

  1. Don't know where you live.  I am in zone 5-6 in New England and wouldn't dream of planting dahlias in the ground at this late date.  It's likely that they would be hit by frost before they have a chance to come into bloom.

    That being said, I would plant them in large pots---in a spot that gets lots of sun and is both near an outdoor spigot <they would require daily watering> and near a sheltered spot--like a garage--for those nights when they are calling for frost.


  2. It depends where you live.

    Here in central Canada I would not expect mine to bloom until next summer.

    The time and place of planting makes a difference if they will bloom.

  3. They will flower,but l'm amazed the tubers haven't gone to mush.Don't plant deep and keep wet

  4. They need approx 3 months to grow. It depends on where you live & how close autumn is for you.
