DC United 4 - 1 Colorado Rapids: Poor defence takes DCU down
It was all a matter of seconds that DC United lost the match to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Colorado-Rapids-c38849 in the third week of 2011 Major League Soccer. The Capital city soccer team visited the reigning champions at d**k’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. The Rapids exhibited their
Championship credentials by inflicting a miserable 4-1 defeat on the Black-and-Red
Although the hosts made the ground with an early lead through Caleb Folan’s 38th minute goal, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chris-c9006 Korb’s joy was short lived. The Rapids responded with Jamie Smith knocking the
United’s net in the very next minute.
Korb started his second straight match of the current season and put a great shift in front of the Black-and-Red boss, Ben Olsen. The player set up the lone goal for the 26-year-old US veteran with a looping cross from the right side of the field.
“I looked up and there was a bunch of people in the box, and I saw ‘Tino kind of drifting at the back post,” he said. “I tried to pick him out and he did a great job to finish it.”
However, Smith’s next minute goal put DCU’s defence in a frizzle and the team started leaking goals. Folan struck again in the 81st minute and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Omar-Cummings-c28557 finished the scoring soon after.
“We felt like we had all the momentum, and then we get the goal, and we have all the momentum,” Korb said. “It’s a backbreaker, they score in the next minute. It’s tough to come back physically and emotionally in a tough place to play like Colorado."
Youngster Blake Brettschneider started his league game for the DCU and created some fine chances in the run of play. However, he still failed to test the opposition defence.
Before the Rapids’ second goal, United defence, including Korb, managed to stop the opposition. After Smith’s goal, however, the defence was all over the place.
Korb admitted the faults committed by him along with his teammates. According to the player, this fall will be an experience the team will learn from en route to becoming a better team. Missing Charlie Davies’ services because of his hamstring injury, the
team was already lacking an experienced goal scorer, but this loss will certainly challenge the team’s morale in the coming days.
Currently at 8th position in the Eastern Conference, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Los-Angeles-Galaxy-c39818 in the fourth week of the league. The team will meet the reigning Western Conference champions at RFK Stadium on April 9. After two consecutive matches
