Just out curiosity . . ..

1. When and how do you you audition? How do you know what positions are available in each of the corps? I have tried looking on the websites but cant seem to find anything.

2. What is the ideal age to audition for a corps? What do they look for when you audition?

3. About how many years of prior experience with the instrument must you have before auditioning?

4. I heard that they have camps for people that are looking foward to joining a certain corps? How do these work? Are they open to all?

  1. 1. I think audition dates have passed for this season, as rehearsals begin in late spring/early summer. Keep checking www.dci.org for any information though.

    2. Typically, (depending on the corp) 17-25 is ideal.

    3. It doesn't necessarily matter how many years you have, but I'd say at least 6. You just need to prove that you are good enough for DCI. (Which means you need to be AMAZING.)

    4. There are camps, and they're typically open to all ages. I'm not sure if there is a camp you can still join, but check out the website and see if there's one in your area. The camps can fun from 2 weeks to a few months, and they basically get you used to the rehersal schedules of DCI.

  2. 1. most corps post audition times, materials and locations on their website during late fall. any position is considered "open" until auditions are done. many corps even have 2 week mini-camps as part of the audition process.

I SUGGEST YOU USE THE "CONTACT US" LINK ON ANY CORPS WEBSITE AND TELL THEM YOU WANT TO AUDITION. be specific! tell them if you are interested in battery, pit, hornline, or gaurd.

    2. ideal age is 14-21 (age out rules state you may compete through your 21st birthday to the end of season).

they look at your current skill level, how well you pick up on everything they train you for, and your attitude.

    3. years of prior experience on the instrument varies for each auditioner, the worst thing they can tell you is to try again next year if they feel you are not ready.

    4. the camps often have a fee to participate, but generally are open to all who want a spot in the corps.

it is easier to get into the smaller corps. blue devils C corps does take mebers younger than 14.
