  2. DCR-HC32 is a miniDV tape based camcorder.

    ALL miniDV tape based camcorders have a DV port that connects to your computer's firewire400 port. If your computer does not have a firewire 400 port, hopefully, you have an available expansion slot so you can add one. Since you did not tell us what computer hardware you are using, there is no way to help you any further on this part.

    The method is not spelled out, but you will notice that the computer is connected using i.LINK for video transfer... USB is used only for transferring stills.

    i.LINK, IEEE1394a, DV and Firewire400 are all the same thing.

    No, a USB-firewire converter/adapter will not work.

    Also, at the Sony web site "Model Home" link for the HC32, there is a"Vista compatibility" link that spells it out - USB is used for the memory stick... I am not aware of a way to record video directly to the memory stick - and I don't think you can copy video from the miniDV tape to the memory stick.
