DE Andre Branch locked in as Jacksonville Jaguars off with rookies’ signing -NFL News
Jacksonville Jaguars have started the process of signing rookie players, who were picked in the 2012 National Football League (NFL) draft, held from April 26 to 28.
Andre Branch, the defensive end selected in the second round, is the first player to sign a multiyear deal with the team.
Branch is reported to have won a four-year, $5.1 million contract. There is no information on other aspects of the deal, which apparently lacks incentives such as guaranteed money.
A section of media has cited a report in the Florida Times-Union, quoting an anonymous source that both parties agreed to the deal terms on Tuesday, May 29.
There is no comment from the player’s agent on the matter but independent sources have confirmed formal signing of the deal, according to the report.
Branch is one of the six players who were selected in the draft.
Meanwhile, organised team activities (OTAs) are underway since last week, with new head coach, Mike Mularkey, in charge of the workout affairs.
Mularkey along with general manager, Gene Smith, regularly contribute to the assessment of the players’ need at certain positions.
Both officials apparently have backing from the new owner, Shahid Khan, who said to have set the target of making his team a consistent winner on the field.
Khan has been actively taking interest in the team affairs since acceptance of the ownership rights in January this year.
However, there are no reports if the owner is meddling into the team’s affairs directly. He has thrown his support behind his coach and GM, but apparently refrained from taking the matter of decision-making into his hands.
Mularkey, who is in first year as a head coach, supports the owner’s ambitions for his team. The coach is particularly convinced of the quality of the talent the Jags have.
