DE Cliff Avril unhappy with media profiling of Lions players - NFL News
After some big off-the-field incidents involving the young players on the Detroit Lions roster, the franchise has built up an unwanted reputation of indiscipline.
Five players of the franchise have faced arrests this offseason because of different run-ins with the law leaving some analysts to question the discipline implemented at the franchise.
The arrests have also marred the Lions build up to the 2012-13 season as they found themselves in the news for all the wrong reasons.
However, Detroit Lions defensive end, Cliff Avril has called the profiling of Lions players unfair and said that the actions of a few players cannot be used as a brush to paint over the entire team.
Speaking to NFL.com, the defensive end said on Tuesday.
"It's not right. It's unfair that you would put the whole thing on the team,"
Adding further he said that the players involved were young and they will learn from this experience becoming more responsible after understanding that their actions has an impact on their teammates and family as well.
"The guys that have gotten in trouble are fairly young. It's a learning curve for these guys, understanding that you can't do these things because it affects not only your teammates but your family, and so on. I think once the guys get an understanding (of)
how this thing is run, they'll be all right. But it's not fair to make it a reflection of the whole team."
The arrests in the offseason have replaced all the good news about the franchise after they achieved their first playoff season last year ending a drought that started way back in 1999.
In 2011-12, Detroit Lions powered their way to the playoff rounds after notching up a 10-6 regular season record.
This year the franchise is targeting bigger prizes and is looking to get back into the playoffs once again, however, off-the-field incidents have marred the franchises reputation and have given the Lions bad press.
It is now up to the young Lions players to keep themselves in check and not involve themselves in further incidents that might put them on the wrong side of the law.
