DE Wallace Gilberry signs with Cincinnati Bengals, replaces injured Jamaal Anderson – NFL News
The 2012 National Football League (NFL) season is almost over for Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Jamaal Anderson with a torn quad tendon which he suffered in the game versus Cleveland Browns on past Sunday.
As of the latest, the Bengals have confirmed his placement on the injured reserve (IR) list, meaning he is out of the side for at least six weeks and if the team names any other player on the IR for a temporary replacement on the roster he is certainly out
of the entire season.
His season-long ousting looks likely given the team has taken a new DE at his position. Free agent Wallace Gilberry has signed with Bengals, although terms of the deal, including value and tenure, have not been disclosed by any side.
Gilberry, a five-year veteran, has played for the Kansas City Chiefs since 2008 through 2011 before joining the Bengals. He played every game for the Chiefs.
He nevertheless is due to join the team in the training straightaway at Jamaal’s position from this weekend.
Jamaal’s injury earlier was not considered to be a serious one but later scans results showed it to be a torn quad tendon, probably requiring a surgery. The team has not speculated a timeline of his possible return.
A final and firm timeline is also not possible at this point because the player is yet not sure about the operation procedure and once it is confirmed and done he can expect an estimated timeline from doctors about his return.
The Bengals are facing the Washington Redskins in a road game – the game number three of the season - this Sunday. They after making a miserable start to the season by losing against the Baltimore Ravens bounced back strongly versus the Cleveland Browns
and beat them comprehensively.
A win over the Redskins can improve their position in the American Football Conference (AFC) North division as their other rivals have a win each, except for the Browns.
