1. how does act 2 of death of a salesman reflect the american dream as the idea of america as a new eden (land of plenty)?

2. how does act 2 reflect the american dream as unlimited optimism ( the idea of moving toward perfection or something better with hard work or luck)?

3. how does act 2 reflect the american dream as the belief in the importance and triumph of the independent, self-reliant individual?

  1.   Might this be a class assignment?

      Certainly even in it's era, the piece depicted some falacy in the context of your 3 questions. That might apply even more in 2008.

       I won't do details here, no offense, but one of the greatest portrayals of the piece in a more contemporary setting was done by William H. Macy. (Fargo)

      Obviously none, or few of us pursue a course in life, we know to be negative, or have any notion that it will be. The more usual case however, in a very factual sense is that while THE DREAM might seem valid, and all should strive for it. IT is often tarnished over time, through experiences.

Death of a Salesman is often assigned reading,, both in high schools and colleges.   As a result there are numerous free on line resources that can help you with your study of this novel, most of which analyze the story, discuss themes and symbolism and other literary devices, and give character sketches.  If you do a search you will find many helpful resources.  Additionally quite a few questions have been asked here on Y!A about Death of a Salesman so do a search for it in the Yahoo Answers search window and you will find lots of Q’s and A’s that should help you.  Best of luck with your work.
