  1. Its going to be OK, Gestational Diabetes is very treatable and if you follow your doctors orders, you will be fine and so will baby.  I was diagnosed with GD at 28 weeks, and my baby is 11 weeks now and very healthy.

You and your baby will be watched very closely by your doctor(s) and they will do the worrying for you.  They monitor your baby to make sure that she/he is gaining weight at a reasonable rate, a too big baby may lead to a C-section, breathing problems or low blood sugar at birth.

What happened to me was, my doctors put me on a special diabetic diet, I monitored my blood sugar, exercised regularly and had what is called an Non Stress Test twice a week.  The NST monitors baby's heart rate and doesn't hurt the baby in any way.  You may or may not have this done.

Its hard going through it, but its all worth it in the end. Good Luck!

  2. Hi,

Congrats on your pregnancy!  I'm sorry to hear about the diabetes.  I had it and it was a pain in the butt.  I had to go on a special diet and had to be extremely careful of EVERYTHING I ate and drank.  I was put on insulin because my blood sugar reading were so high.  My doctor told me that your fasting should be no higher than 90.

We finally controlled my diabetes, but because I found out so late in my pregnancy about the diabetes, my son was placed in NICU because his blood sugar was extremely low.  (I had two miscarriages before this pregnancy and was so scared I was going to lose him).  After 8 days in NICU he was released.  They told me that he may have a greater chance for diabetes when he gets older.

He'll be 18 months old on the 19th and he's doing just fine.  I also want to add that most women have big babies due to the diabetes, my son only weighed 5lbs 12oz at birth.  I hope this helped you..If you take care of yourself...you take care of your baby!!!!! :)

  3. I have it right now, and I was good at first.  Tried to check my blood sugar all the time.  But since we dont have the means to buy food for me and separate food for my family I couldnt eat the right food. And of course my husband makes too much for food stamps, I pretty much gave up on it.  The dietitian was really mean too, she expected me to walk to mcdonalds if i wanted to go...i can barely breath as it is just standing up!  She didnt understand not everybody who has kids qualifys for food stamps and can change their whole life style in a day!!  I had a huge baby the first time around and didnt have it so im expecting another one.  38 weeks and she;s 9lbs 7ozs roughly.  Good luck, I found it very hard!
