My cousin gave me a Dell Latitude CPI after using it for quite some time. I had had no problems with it until one day, in the middle of my work, it just blacked out. After that, I was able to reboot and after a few moments, it blacked out again.

Now, whenever I press the power switch while its plugged into the charger, these things happen:

1) the vertical green light under the monitor, the one labeled with a circle and a vertical dash ( I ), would light up for like 3 seconds and turn off

2) after the first light, the other light labeled with a battery would flash

3) and nothing else happens after that.

i also noticed that it does not make that whirring sound anymore.. what am i going to do to make it work again?

  1. try the following step:

    1. disconnect the power and take out the battery.

    2. disconnect all the devices like USB hub and cd/dvd ROM drive

    3. plug only the power adepter and power on

if your notebook was able to power on, that's mean some devices like USB devices or CD/DVD ROM may short circuit resulting the motherboard trigger force power down.

if your notebook was unable to power on, chances will be the motherboard faulty. (However, your hard disk still can use, you can takeout this to restore your data by using the external harddisk casing with USB support.)
