Ok so i enlisted on thursday for the millionth time and i have had 3 years JROTC, but they would not give me E-2 because my last year of high school i went to another school in California which is not a traditional high school. I got a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, just not from a traditional high school so they said i can't get E-2 which i guess is not a big deal i just think its bullshit. So i asked my recruiter to check it out but you know how long it takes them to do anything. so i was wondering if anyone had any insights and should i even fight to get the rank

  1. At MEPS they have a list of approved, accredited schools.  If your non-traditional school is not on that list you are not going to be given any special benefits you would have gotten from a real school.  Sorry, that is just how it works.  Be thankful they let you in at all without having to get your GED first.  If that would have happened you would be limited even more with what you could have done military wise.  Work hard at everything in boot camp and you may earn your E-2 before you graduate.

  2. e-1 thru e-3 is not much of a difference, evern the pay is not a big difference

  3. If you were an Eagle Scout ck it out-may make a difference. know it has for some people.

  4. Dude don't bother just work your way up. Not that different from an E-1 anyways.

  5. Dude (I'm not copying the other guy, I started my answer before he finshed), you signed the contract. The Marines are going to stick you where they need you. They have no obligation to give you E-2 because you are an enlistee, and you barley have high school diploma, which means you don't have any college. E-2 is usually given to people who come out of ROTC or OTS or have enough years to warrant that rank. JROTC is boy scouts with the military stamped on it, so it doesn't count for anything as far as getting E2 goes.

The recruiter can't do more than put in a good word for you. But man, the Marines have you and many, many others on their roster. Good for you, you're a soldier and you have my respect and gratitude, but being an enlistee sucks. The Marines have no obligation to give you E2, and their are others who have been in the system longer, have college under their belt, or scored high on the ASVAB.

If I were you I would write to your superior and address your cirrcumstances with him. See what happens. But chances are, you're going to have to do some time. E-2 isn't just handed out cause you ask for it though. Ranks are earned either by time or cause you went to college.
