WHY >> "Was HAT ihr am Samstag GEMACHT ?"

BUT >> "Da HAT Jens eine Portion Eis GEGESSEN."

And the same thing:

WHY >> "Ich HABE Jens BESUCHT." (why not besuchen?)

BUT >> "Ich HABE nur Mineralwasser GETRINKEN." (why not getrinkt?)

etc.

  1. It seems that there's no WHY for language rules, what we can do is to distinguish and remember them...

    1. What has she done on Saturday?

    2. Then Jens has eaten a portion of egg.

    3. "besucht" is the past participle of "besuchen" when "getrinken" is the of "trinken"

  2. hi Chris,

you must learn the declination of the verbs by hard. and some corrections.

was HABT ihr am Samstag gemacht?

ill tell you the declination of "haben" (infinitive)

    ich habe,

    du hast,

    er hat,

    wir haben,

    ihr habt,

    sie haben

    next

ich HABE Jens BESUCHT! ( "besuchen" besuchen- besuchte- besucht)

ich HABE nur Mineralwasser GETRUNKEN ("trinken" - trinken - trank - getrunken)

you must learn the "biegung" of every verb. i know thats not easy.
