DFB calls for axing of Dynamo Dresden after fans lash out – 2. Bundesliga News
The German Football Federation has asked for disqualification of 2. Bundesliga side, Dynamo Dresden, from next year’s German Cup. The controversy began during a second round DFB Pokal game between Borussia Dortmund and Dynamo Dresden last week.
Dortmund played hosts to Dresden last week and ended up qualifying for the third round. The angry SGD fans threw objects onto the field, lit flares and fought with the police personnel to ensure a bitter end to what initially was a sedate start to the proceedings.
The reigning Bundesliga champions opened the scoring through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ralf-c30492 Loose’s side.
Dresden, who are 10th on the league standings with 17 points from 13 games, tried their best to stop the fans from causing riots but to no avail. The fans were clearly unhappy with the result and it all started when some individual set one of
the toilets on fire inside the stadium.
The Signal Iduna Park officials tried to calm down the situation but it all went out of control as the fans were forced to run for their lives. The stadium was vacated inside the next few minutes causing major damage to the Borussians property.
Dortmund officials, along with the DFB, were given responsibility of looking into the matter and the federation has now requested for a ban on the second division outfit.
According to a statement on the club’s website, it was mentioned, "After six convictions with fines in the seasons 2009/10 and 2010/11 as well as two in the current season, the DFB had warned the club of tougher sanctions if their fans misbehaved again."
The higher Dresden officials have now been asked to present their defence in order to survive the scare of a ban from next year’s German Cup. The Second Division side will get to know their fate in two to three weeks time.
