The German FA are likely to be charged by UEFA following their fan’s conduct in the game against Netherlands.
Germany and Netherlands are both drawn in the Group B, dubbed as the Group of Death. The match itself was a highly contested encounter. Both sides had to go for the three points. Germany needed the win to be in a strong position
to qualify for the quarter finals and the Dutch were without a point, after the getting the beat at the hands of Denmark.
Die Mannschaft set the tempo of the game with an early goal and soon doubled their lead through Mario Gomez. The match was attended by both set of fans and scores of people flocked into Kharkiv from Western Europe and the game
was sold out. The game itself has a lot of political significance, and is known to turn ugly.
This time around, unlike previous encounters the players kept their emotions in check and tempers hardly ran high. Joachim Low’s men won the game 2-1, which lead to wild celebrations in the German fan’s enclosure. Their fans set
of fireworks, threw missiles damaging seats and some of other parts of the stadium.
Following Die Mannschaft fans’ behaviour UEFA released a statement notifying that they have started investigating the incident and will start the disciplinary proceedings immediately.
"Uefa today confirms that it has opened disciplinary proceedings against the German football association following last night's Euro 2012 Group B match between Germany and the Netherlands in Kharkiv," UEFA spokeman is quoted as
saying in an interview.
Within no time UEFA released their statement, and notified that the DFB will be charged for their fans conduct at the game in Kharkiv.
"The DFB is charged with the setting-off of fireworks and the throwing of missiles by supporters. The Uefa Control and Disciplinary Body will deal with the case on Monday June 18,” he added.
This is the second time the German FA has been charged for failing to control their fans. Only a day ago the DFB was fined 10,000 Euros for fan related incidents in their opening game against Portugal.
UEFA has adopted a strict approach towards fans’ behaviour, the Russian FA has also been charged after their fans racially abused the Czech player Gebre Selassie.
