Why do people hate it so much?

  1. Baseball was meant to be played both on the field as well as at the plate.  To be a complete baseball player one much be proficient as a defensive player as well as an offensive player.  That's the way the game was designed to be.

The DH takes away from the pure strategy of the game.  I don't believe that any DH should be given serious consideration for the hall of fame either.

The DH was designed to keep "over the hill" players in the game past their complete effectiveness and that's cheating the fans.

  2. As a AL fan, specifically White Sox, I like the DH.I think the NL should have it as well. EXAMPLE:

Not having the DH limits the players National League teams can even pursue in free agency. Let's face it; Jim Thome still was a productive hitter for the Phillies in 2004 before injuries limited him in 2005. Serving primarily as DH for the White Sox, he prolonged his career to the point that his 523 career home runs put him in the Hall of Fame discussion. He probably could not have done that by finishing his career in the National League.

  3. no

  4. I'm with llk51 on this one. The NL strategy is dictated to you. AL mangers have to know when to pull a pitcher. The game has changed over the years. No one is a complete player, they are all specialist for the most part. Complete games are very rare for pitchers. Now they have closers and set up men. Back in the day if you were in the bullpen it was because you were a broken down starter (kinda like a DH) that couldn't go the distance.

Personally I'd rather see a Thome or Big Papi hit rather than a Maddux or a Randy Johnson.

Maybe that's why the AL is been so dominate in inter-league play?

  5. I love it and NL needs to get with the times because when Ching Ming-Wang got injured baserunning it killed

    stupid NL dumbfuckz

  6. I disagree that it decreases strategy. It increases it, per Jim Leyland.

EDIT: I assume then that a pitcher who can't hit shouldn't continue in the majors, since he's not a "complete player?" The "complete player" argument has been one of the weakest arguments this debate has ever had.

  7. It's better for there to be a DH because the pitchers don't have to worry about maybe getting hurt at the plate.

and dh's are usually good hitters, which makes more hits, which makes a more exciting game.

  8. Its both.

DH reduces injury and helps the pitchers pitch better and also allows a more exciting hitter to be in the line up besides the pitcher

however without it there is more strategy and it can also make the game more interesting.

however pitchers can't be getting injured and its too much to risk, DH all the way

  9. Listen to The Mick "7". Did Warren Spahn or Lew Burdette need to be run for? Even Sandy Koufax, by far the worst hitter I ever saw, had no problem stepping up to the plate. Heck, even today, look at Greg Maddox, for crying out loud. He fields, he hits, he runs, and, oh, yeah, he pitches a little. Having the big cyclops come up, batting .260 with 50 RBIs to strike out every 3 innings not only is boring, it just isn't baseball.

  10. THE PITCHERS SHOULNT BE RUNNING STUPID NL THE MADE AWESOME WANG END UP ON DL

  11. I like it the way that it is. I love how we have a DH, but I also love how the NL is keeping it old schooooooool baby =]

  12. I hate the NL!! They made our best pitcher (Wang) go down probably till the end of the season

Like Hank Steinbrenner said the NL needs to get into the 21st century

  13. The Mick 7 said it so well.  If you're not a batter, you're not a complete ballplayer.

I agree about the Hall of Fame, too:  as the Hall of Fame n**i says -- "No Hall for you!"

If Wang got hurt running the bases, so be it.  It's only one person's fault -- his.

I can't believe -- well, yes I guess I can -- the way Steinbrenner cried over that whole episode.  Just go out and buy another pitcher and shut up about it!

  14. I favor the DH in both leagues.  I do not think that the 37-year-old, ending his career as a DH is cheating the fans.  To see a great hitter retire early is cheating the fans.  The complete player argument does not hold up, nor does the strategy argument.  Why do I want to watch some utility guy with a .233 average pinch hit for the pitcher in the 8th, when I could see a better hitter hit 4 times that day?

  15. The Mick 7 is so right.  It's all about playing the game and that means fielding, and throwing as well as hitting and running the bases.  I could not have said it better myself.

  16. i hate the DH, I think everyone should be accountable for offense and defense......also is harder to manage in the national league dew to the 9th spot. and in the AL is just a bunch of meatheads swinging for the fence...not hit and run or manufacturing runs likt the fun game tht the NL is...

  17. I like DH's, but I would really like it if they had DH's for National and American League. Most pitcher's aren't that good at hitting, and it kills their offense sometimes. Most pitchers usually strike-out, and if there's 2 outs and someone on third, there goes a run someone else had a better chance of driving in. Star 4 u.
