I have a 06 Iron Horse Comp MK lll and I use it for downhill and freestyle even though it really isnt made for it... ( I dont have the money to get a DH bike) anyways I was looking at DH forks and I was wondering if any fork will fit on my bike and work? Or will it put my front end to high. Im worried that the bike wont hold up because its IH "trail" bike

Anyone ever tried this?

  1. I would not recommend putting a downhill fork on your bike.  Like the above post said it will put more stress on your head tube than what it was designed for.  I looked at the Iron horse web site and I believe that the max for you could put is 140mm of travel.  60mm or more of travel then what is recommened is a bad choice.  I would go 10 over the recommended travel but not more.   Also the taller fork will make it harder to climb.  I just went 10mm over and could really feel it in the climb, makes it a lot harder.

Anyways the price of a downhill fork you should just save up a little bit more and get the 7point.  It is on sale for about 1900 if your go through there website.  Or for less go to jensonusa.com and look at the downhill bikes there is some good downhill bikes I'm thinking about getting.

  2. A downhill fork is pretty much over 7 inches...

That will make your headtube super weak, and it will break over time, and that will hurt for sure.

It will cause your front end to be raked out, and it will feel like those big west coast chopper bikes.

Just save up for a downhill bike, its not worth the injury.

  3. Bestcat---Get some DH forks at Price Point (www.pricepoint.com), Wheel World (www.wheelworld.com), Blue Sky Cycling (www.blueskycycling.com).  Any DH fork from Marzocchi ( mostly Bombers), Manitou, Rock Shox and Pace are COOL! ( Depends on what travel of fork you want from 80m to 170mm with all pre-load adjustments function too).
