DHL delivery driver.?

Do you get weekends off? I talked to a guy who works for a contractor of DHL. He gets sundays, and sometimes saturdays. He made it sound like he decides If he wants to work Saturdays or not. Whats the deal? Also, does anyone know the starting pay?

Drivers for DHL's Independent Contractors ("IC's") do NOT make very much money. Average around $10 per hour starting.

DHL does not deliver on Sunday, so you would generally not work Sundays. DHL does deliver on Saturdays, but the volume is much lighter than during the week, thus a smaller group is needed on Saturdays, which means it may be optional, or by lottery or however they do it.

IC drivers do NOT get the sweet kind of benefits that UPS drivers get, because IC drivers are not generally union, nor are they employees of DHL. There ARE some union DHL drivers who are actually DHL employees, but only about 1/3 of all DHL drivers are such.

DHL is currently in the process of closing a lot of stations, including locations where IC drivers work. I would make sure this location is going to be around for a while. Be careful.

You would be better off getting a job as a loader at a UPS station. If you work hard there, you can eventually work your way into one of their very sweet driving jobs. Very secure. Very good benefits. You'll work your butt off, but it's a good job.

second hand experience-a friend drives for UPS. probably similar...

he makes pretty good money. decent to start, but i don't know the exact amt.

they rotate weekends, except at christmas when everybody works.

overall, not a bad job. seems fairly stable, given consistent growth in internet shopping.
