DICE will continue to support Battlefield 3 – Video Games Update
Following the announcement of Battlefield 4, which will be getting the public multiplayer Beta in fall 2013, the Swedish developer DICE has reassured the fans that it will continue to support Battlefield 3 even after the fourth game comes out.
Gamers were worried when the fourth installment in the Battlefield franchise was announced and many believed that the announcement had come too soon as it hasn’t even been a full year since the Battlefield 3 was released. It is a general assumption that
a developer stops supporting an older game once the sequel comes out.
However, this is not the case according to DICE, as the studio claims that it will continue to bring new add-ons and DLCs for Battlefield 3 just like it still supports Battlefield: Bad Company 2. DICE stated that it boasts a very talented dev team and as
the new Frostbite engine 2 is maturing, the studio can easily work on a new game while continuing to support the current release.
"There are several teams at DICE. Starting work on Battlefield 4 does not mean that we will be abandoning Battlefield 3 or working any less hard to bring you the best expansions we can. Your feedback absolutely matters. We will continue to use it to improve
BF3 and to make Battlefield 4 even better from day one," said Ian Tornay, the community manager at DICE while addressing the Reddit community.
DICE also revealed that there is currently no release date set for Battlefield 4 but it will be announced once the multiplayer Beta comes out. As of now the only way to get access to the Beta is through pre-ordering the limited edition of the upcoming Medal
of Honor: Warfighter (MOH) but DICE has reassured battlefield fans who don’t like MOH that there will be other ways to get in on the Beta later on.
DICE thinks that they have gotten a lot of data from Battlefield 3 which will really help them in perfecting the upcoming installment in the franchise. The fact that the Frostbite 2 engine has also matured also means that DICE will continue to deliver top
of the line cutting edge visuals in all of its upcoming games.
