  1. only Analogue signals (speakers or Coax or RCA or SCART signals) need good cables to improve the signal. but a £30 cable may be noticeably better than a £5 cable, however whether at £300 cable sounds better than a £30 is doubtful (it becomes an ego thing then)

Digital signals will either get there or not.  if they get there  then they have no difference between a £10 cable or a £200 one.  you have been duped by the better cables sales trick.

Never waste money on over spec digital cables  and only go as far as midrange on analogue ones otherwise you are wasting you money!

  2. fiber optic cable is digital, and as such, it really has zero bearing on the quality of the sound. Digital is digital! Since the fault cannot be the fiber cable, you need to look elsewhere. See if your dad can return the overpriced cable.
