OK i am so fed up with DirecTV anytime it even looks like it is going to rain the picture pixelates and goes out. Me and my dad are huge NASCAR and Formula One race fans and it is so frustrating to come home expecting the races to be recorded and they are all pixelated and unwatchable!!! IS THERE ANY WAY TO MINIMIZE THE PIXELATION OR TO FIX IT?? PLEASE HELP!!

  1. First thing is to look the way your dish is pointing.  Do you see anything that might along the path of the dish?  A tree or building or hilltop?  If not, check the alignment of the dish.  Is it really pointed at the satellite?  There should be an alignment function in the setup menu.  That should read about 80% or higher.  If none of that helps you can get a bigger dish.  This will increase your signal and should provide a better picture.

  2. when in doubt get the protection plan (if you haven't already), wait 30 days, then get a service call at no cost (except for the 1 year of the Plan which comes out to around $7-8 less than the actual service call) and have a technician diagnose your problem.

My guess is an alignment issue, like the others have said. The signal has to shoot up nearly 6 miles into space, gets a slight signal boost, then back down that same distance, so it's natural that the signal is a little touchy. If anything is interfering with the signal (a leaf from a newly-budding tree, for example) it can easily cause problems. The same goes for the dish being misaligned by even 1 degree.

  3. Check your alignment.  It shoudn't be that touchy.  If you aren't aimed dead on, you may get enough signal for good weather but lose it in poor weather.

Check for trees, too, and bad coax or connectors.
