DISCUS SHOT help please?

Im a 17-year-old student

I have a passion for sports and watch nearly every sport event broadcast on TV

Including athletics especially during Olympics

(which is perhaps to my benefit)

Last week my school arranged my class to try throwing during physical education

I tried throwing discus, for the FIRST TIME in my life

My teacher just showed me how to throw it, and without any prior knowledge I threw around 12.5m

(twelve and a half)

This was the 2nd best distance among my friends and the one who threw the discus had done it for quite some time

Now I know that distance is nothing compared to the top athletes

But as a first-timer

Does my 12.5m maiden throw indicate any potential in me?

Im just curious; I just hope that if I do have the potential perhaps I can train myself and perhaps throw for my school

Also, I have interest in the sport

THANK YOU

  1. I am guessing that you threw a shot put, not a discus.  A discus can be thrown over 50m at the high school level.  Throwing 12.5 for a shot put is ok.  Being your first time, that is good.

Go ahead and try out for the school.  Get some tips on form.  Shot put and Discus are very form intensive and you may find that you really enjoy it.  That is the main thing is enjoyment of the sport.  Watch the Olympians or find some world class video on youtube or something.

    Good Luck!

  2. Hmmm. I dont do meters, I could convert it to feet to see how good that is, but I dont have a caluculator
