DISH Network Offer?

My 18-month contract with DISH Network expires next month. I currently have HD service, but no DVR. Now that my contract is up, I figure I have a little bargaining power. If I threaten to switch to DirecTV, what can I expect from DISH? Will they throw in a free HD-DVR and maybe free DVR service?

Heres the deal, you're going to want to go with the Dish Networks D.I.U.(Dish Upgrade Offer).  In all likelyhood in order for you to upgrade to the 722 HDDVR receiver, you'll be looking at $150.(This covers equipment and installation) , and then in return they'll give you six months of HD programming for free as well as an extra $100 rebate on your bill.  The fact of the matter is that Dish Network has no reason to actually just give you the HDDVR receiver for free, and heres the reason why:  If you switch to DirecTv as a new customer, you will still have to pay $199 for HDDVR upgrade.  DirecTv gives away the HD receivers for free and they give away their DVR receivers for free, but the HDDVR combo still costs $199 whether your a new customer or not.   Also, DirecTvs programming cost more per month, even though both companies have essentially the same HDTV programming.  In my opinion you should just stick with Dish Network and pay for the upgrade, you'll come out ahead in the long run easily.  Also, I actually like Dish Networks 722HDDVR receiver more than DTV's HR-21-100 HDDVR.  The DishNet receiver has more memory time both HDTV and SDTV related, and its an all around better receiver.  The fact of the matter is either way you're in the same boat, the only difference being the fact that Dish Networks programming is just a pube hair cheaper.

  3. yes, in February you can get a DVR for the same price. call dish at 1 -800-333-3474 and ask for a 622 or 722 receiver.  BTW you have all the "bargaining power" you will ever have once you have been with dish for 1 year and are in good standing for any of the current customer promotions.
