The top will have a twin sized mattress, and the bottom is open. Will creating one myself with 2x4's (or larger) be safe? Do you know of a good site where I can find builing plans for this....or if you have some drawn up yourself, could you email them to me? Thanks a milllion. ( superleggeranat@yahoo.com )

  1. 2x4s aren't good enough for the posts.  You need at least 4x4's  Our daughters had loft beds so they could have their desks underneath.  You may be able to just buy one somewhere.  We bought theirs for about 120 bucks.

  2. I built one when my sons were young.  Used 4x4s for the corner posts, attached the bed to the wall, built a ladder for it, whole nine yards.  We started with the two beds in an L shape so one dresser would fit underneath with the bed.  When one son moved to a different room, the desk went under the bunk.  It worked great.  I don't have plans, just built it out of my head.

  3. put a desk under there like you said lol that would be realy cool!!!!!

  4. It will be perfectly safe if you build it sturdy enough with good construction methods. 2x4's will be plenty strong as long as you have proper cross braces.

  5. try searching for loft bed plans.....they are very stable when built correctly...
