DIY Soundproofing on the Cheap!?

Question

While my girlfriend supports my drumming habit, she doesn't necessarily want to hear it in all parts of our house. I keep the drums in the basement and am looking for some inexpensive ways to soundproof; or at least greatly reduce the sound.

You can staple some of that eggshell mattress topper material on the walls to help reduce the sounds. Heavy carpeting, fabric furniture and the like will also help to soak up noise.
