DIY Wind Generator - Is it easy?

How easy is it to make your own wind generator to use in a residential area to power small appliances? Is it expensive?

Its is actually fairly easy, I built my windmill in 1 afternoon with the plans from the site: http://instantproducts.info . My electric bill went from 400 dollars a month to 50 dollars a month.

I blog about residential wind power and I've been doing a lot of research on the do-it-yourself option.  I haven't done this myself, but, from what I've read, the process can be pretty straight-forward and inexpensive.  A number of products like Earth4Energy provide detailed step-by-step instructions and promise that you will be able to build your own wind generator for less than $200.  

Although it is possible, the average person is not going to be able to go through this process in an afternoon.  People have told me that after they've done it a couple of times it can be that simple, but expect it to take longer when you're starting out.

Something else to be aware of is that $200 will build ONE small turbine and you will need several to put a significant dent in your electricity bill.  The numbers $200 and 80% savings seem to be thrown out together a lot, but this is not accurate.  You can start generating your own power for $200, but the average household cannot cut their electricity consumption by 80% with a $200 investment.  It's just not possible.

Honestly, it's very easy to make your own wind generator. You can make it for less than $200, using some basic supplies that you can pickup at your local hardware store.
