Question:

DIY wedding invitations, worth it or not?

Is it really worth doing yourself, or too big of a stress?

And has anyone used any great and easy DIY guides or kits to make wedding invitations and announcements?

  1. The thing is (and I say this with great understanding), your guests won't really care how your invitation looks as long as it meets a bare minimum. They will barely notice anything creative or heartfelt: it's not their wedding, so they will be more interested in the content of the invitation than in the format. And many crafty invitations are actually impractical for guests - it's hard to stick an invitation rolled into a scroll and tied with ribbon into your wallet.

That's not to say that DIY invitations are wrong. Far from it: a hand-written invitation on quality plain white or cream paper is actually the most socially appropriate form of invitation. Engraved invitations are considered an acceptable but inferior substitute. But don't get crafty and fancy about them and wrap them in ribbon and all that stuff - your guests simply won't care about what the invitation looks like. They care that you are getting married to someone you love.

  2. A lot depends on how much time you have. Very few people hold onto a wedding invitation, so your work would not be appreciated by all. Those who are crafty would know though. I think the invitation is such a small part of the entire experience, I would go with a really nice ready-made one. They have so many individual styles now. You could compromise by sending your hand made cards as Thank yous to the people who attended or for gifts given. That way you wouldn't be in a rush, and it also wouldn't matter that everyone didn't get one. Wishing you much happiness as you prepare for your wedding.

  3. I know a girl who did her own and they were beautiful, you would have thought that they were bought at a high price stationary store. I think it depends on the size of the wedding. If you are having a small wedding then it may be worth it with a small amount of stress. But if you are having a huge wedding (200+) then you may want to purchase invitations. Nothing in planning weddings is stress free.

I found these sites that have DIY kits.

    Good luck.

  4. I think its a beautiful idea and plan to do it myself. Why not? If you are the crafty creative type then show your skills by making beautiful yet simple cards.

Its going to save you alot more money and its going to be special since they are going to be unique and one of a kind.
