  1. An invasive cardiologist will do procedures that "invade" the body, such as catheterization via the femoral artery, insertion of stents, endartererectomies (plaque removal), angiography (injection of dye), etc. He or she will also use the techniques of a non-invasive cardiologist.

A non-invasive cardiologist uses diagnostic skills of physical findings in the heart exam such as rate and rhythm, point of maximum impulse, heaves, thrills, murmurs, venous distention, etc. plus findings on EKG, echocardiogram, stress tests, stress echoes with and without radioactive tracers. Except for the intravenous injection of diagnostic fluids, the non-invasive cardiologist uses nothing that enters the body.
