DLC for Assassin’s Creed 3 confirmed – Video Games Update
Ubisoft has revealed its plans to support Assassin’s Creed with post launch downloadable content (DLC) throughout the year after the game is released this fall.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is the fifth installment (excluding handheld spin-offs) in the Assassin’s Creed series developed by Ubisoft and will be set during the American Revolution. The game has gotten a lot of criticism by British gamers as the protagonist appears
to be fighting British Red-coats and aiding the Americans.
It seems that Ubisoft will be following in Electronic Arts’ footsteps as the publisher plans to add a DLC season pass to Assassin’s Creed 3. This is becoming a rather nasty habit amongst publishers as they tend to focus less on the completeness of the actual
game and develop the story in such a way so that they can cut out major parts which would then be later released as DLC for gamers to buy.
The worst part is when some of the DLC is only available for free to gamers who are willing to pre-order the game and those who don’t will have to purchase it for $10 to $20 when it becomes available to download as DLC. It’s even worse when the pre-order
bonuses do not show up as DLC even after the game’s launch.
Ubisoft has not confirmed if the planned DLC will be an extension of the single player campaign or if it will be multiplayer related like the majority of DLC released for the previous Assassin’s Creed games after Brotherhood. However, one thing is for certain
that there will be a lot of DLC in order to warrant a season pass.
"We are currently in the process of creating a complementary development team that will begin working on post-launch episodic content to continue the Game of the Year experience that Assassin's Creed 3 will undoubtedly deliver," stated the Assassin’s Creed
team, in a letter to Kotaku, who seem pretty confident about their product and already consider it a Game of the Year contender despite the stiff competition the game will face this fall.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is due for release on October 30, 2012 and will be available for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Wii-U and the PC.
