DMV Eye Test?

I am going to get my learners permit from the DMV soon and I was just worried about the eye test I don't know if I will pass it. I know you have to have 20/40 vision to drive, I have ok vision I can see a green street sign almost clearly from about 45 to 50 feet but its hard for me to see detail. Like on a speed limit sign by a school I have to be kinda close to see the "when children present" writing. Its also hard for me to see the store hours on store doors. So I was just wondering how hard the vision test is.(the kind you look in the machine) I live in Wisconsin any help would be greatly apperciated.

  1. The "hardness" or difficulty of the test would be relative.  If you have no visual difficulties...the test will be easy.  If you do have them, it will be hard.  If you don't meet the requirements, they will require you to take a form to an eye doctor (at least in my state they do) and have him/her fill it out with your current visual standing and whether or not you are required to wear a prescription while driving.  Then you take it back to the DMV and it supercedes their vision test.  Hope this helps.

  2. 20/40 is the rule, but if you take your time, you can probably do it.

Part of the key is that some of the numbers/letters only appear in ONE eye... so, squint and close one eye and then the other to carefully examine the lines.

(I have 20/40+ uncorrected vision, and at least the last time I tried I was able to squint and get through it.  Super helpful if you need to drive and you've lost your classes!)
