DN Galan to promise a thrilling Women’s 800m contest: Samsung Diamond League – Athletics news
The DN Galan meeting this Friday, which has been announced to be the 11th leg of the Samsung Diamond Series, has convened an overawing field for the Women’s 800 competition. The meet, which is expected to have about ten runners with a sub 1:59
seconds finishing time, will surely bring about a worth-watching contest.
Some of the most highlighted names to join the field will include Halima Hachlaf, who, for dominating the Oslo track, improved her Personal Best to an impressive one minute and 58.27 seconds. Shouldering her in the event will be Kenia Sinclair, the 31-year-old
experienced Jamaican middle-distance runner, who claims a Personal Best of one minute and 58.29 seconds.
The Jamaican athlete, at the start of this season, has already displayed her potential by bagging the 1500m title at the New York competition. The American duo of Alysia Montano, along with Alice Schmidt will also take part in the meet. Both runners recently
displayed their season’s bests of one minute and 58.33 seconds and one minute and 58.61 seconds, respectively.
Interestingly, to trigger the killing instinct of such a formidable field, there is the reward strategy of the Stockholm meet organisers that give away a one-carat diamond worth $10,000 to every stadium record breaker. Thus, while running to secure their
titles, each woman runner will also strive for displaying their best potential and mark a new stadium record in Stockholm.
Another strenuous runner joining the field at the DN Galan competition will be Caster Semenya, the current world champion, who is also a leader of the Diamond race meet. The 20-year-old South African has been displaying tremendous form in her recent meets.
She finished at the top of the podium in Paris, went on to bag silver in the Eugene competition and also acquired a bronze in Oslo, where she observed a finish of one minute and 58.61 seconds.
The young girl, who claims that she remains oblivious of what other runners do, is only focused on her own game to outdo her rivals in the run.
