DNA Test wrong results???

I took the DNA Tribes test and it would follow as my fathers fathers father etc. and my mothers mother mother etc. This would be my Polish and German side, but when I got the results today there was only one European country on there. And it was Britain! It was all China, India, Africa, and Palestine! My last name is Zembrzowski but they listed it as Zebra on the DNA test. Does anyone know what happened?

P.S. I'm white with blond hair and blue eyes....... The test just doesn't make any sense!

  1. The company that did mine said 2 - 5 percent if the tests came out with unexpected results because of secret adoptions or infidelity. In your case, given the name mixup, it sounds like the minimum-wage worker stuffing envelopes missed his stroke, and you got Mr. Zebra's test. Your may have gone to someone in the next ZIP code, or to someone whose surname started with "Zen", depending on how they were sorted for mailing.

    Write to the company.

  2. It sounds like they sent you someone Else's results.

  3. What the DNA test does is trace your mitchondrial line and if you are male, also your Y line back through thousands of years.

Genealogy DNA shows that everyone's ancestry began in Africa, even Scandinavians.

I was born with red hair, blue eyes and a skin cancer type complexion and my Mithondrial went from Africa, to Iran and eventually to Northern Europe.

However, understand this, when it comes to your ethnic background Y & Mitochondrial are a very very minute part of your total ancestry.

Most of your DNA is autosomal. You get it 50-50 from both parents coming down from all your ancestors.  It determines your appearances, your pigmentation, your bone structure, your height etc.  It is  only DNA that relates a female to her father or anyone to the spouses and their families of those in their direct Y & Mitochondrial lines.

Example:  If you go back to your 6xgreat grandparents, barring any duplicates, you are directly descended from 510 individuals.  Of those 510 individuals you get your Autosomal DNA from all 510, but you get your Mitochondrial DNA from only 8 and if your are male you will also get your Y DNA from only 8.  The DNA testing companies, I believe, mislead people in thinking they can get their total ethnicities when they state you can discover your deep ancestral heritage in their testing when they are only using Y & Mitochondrial.  I don't think they are doing it deliberately. They just don't realzie people are not putting 2 and 2 together that Y & Mitochondrial will not be their complete ancestry.

Using Autosomal is far more complicated.  Testing companies are working to use Autosomal.  Right now it is not as accurate as Y & Mitochondrial since they go back in a direct line virtually unchanged.  Using Y & Mitochondrial results can be very helpful in connecting you to other family trees and once you make those connections you very likely will discover who  their spouses and the parents of their spouses were, but don't expect it to give you a total view of your ancestral heritage.  Also, distant cousin that are in the direct Y & Mitochondrial lines that you are not in,if they were tested, their Haplogroups will eventually go back to Africa.

Actually, it had to be autosomal DNA that related Sally Hemings to Thomas Jefferson.  She didn't  get Y DNA at all and her Mitochondrial would have come only from her mother.  Males get Mitochondrial but they don't pass it on to their children.

All of our ancestors were nomads at one time.
