Did they ever do a DNA analysis on that dead mystery animal found on the beach? Did anyone ever find out what it is? I answered a question a week ago about it (In a joking way, and won.) but I have been thinking about it ever since and still wonder what it is? Does anybody know? Here is a link to the original question.

  1. i was under the impression from the articles that the thing 'disappeared' and not sure what happened to it

  2. The scientists doing the investigation may run a DNA test, but that usually takes some time (weeks to months) to complete.  Moreover, there it is not certain that DNA will identify it--remember we still live in a world where no one even knows how many species there are in total, much less have all been sampled for genetic markers. The technology is not yet to the point where a DNA test could immediately identify the species, unless it was one which was a fairly common animal or the researchers got lucky.

Of course, if researchers have an idea of what the animal is, they can verify or rule it out very easily.  But a very broad search is still challenging.

  3. They still don't know at this point. (To my knowledge) But if you go back to my question...you will see I added some comments after the question. I put a link in there of a new you tube video that shows the thing from a whole new angle. Go watch it and you get a much better idea of what it might be.
