  1. i disagree.

the people that have something to hide will still avoid the system. Why should innocent people be recorded? It is an invasion of privacy.

  2. I'm with Powder Pete on this one. Except one thing, the British public does not have a back bone to fight anymore. i.e. Petrol prices, taxes, food prices, more taxes. We might as well be on a DNA database and have ID cards, even implanted chips, because the time for fighting back has gone.

Let me know when the revolution starts.

  3. You know what, i absolutely agree with you.  If you've got nothing to hide why would you object, i couldn't give a c**p if cctv cameras followed me about, i don't care i have nothing to hide, i really don't get why people are so uptight about this.  Great question, have been meaning to ask something similar.

  4. i dont agree.....if you have ever been booked into jail they have your DNA. think of all the people that have been booked for DUI's, the govt has plenty of DNA.

  5. That may be true about nothing to hide part but who or whom will be controlling your DNA information........ How would you like to be dragged out of your house at 3 in the morning for supposedly raping somebody 10 states away because of buracratic bungling, government ineptness or malicous police??   How about sharing it with insurance companys that could use your DNA info to deny you insurance.....  You better wake up folks -- You put way to much trust in your government...... Unless you  have been convicted of a crime they dont need your DNA, fingerprints, blood, s***n, stool or urine samples -- Nothing!!

  6. No. It's an invasion of privacy and the government have "lost" confidential CD's, letters and laptops containing private personal details on millions of people. Imagine if they have been stolen because so many incidents cnanot be a coincidence. Do you really want random strangers having your private details?

  7. why should it then you would get knocked back for a lot of things because of stuff that is out of your control,

  8. ...And why not tattoo a number on our arms, like the Jews in the last war? I don't think so!

What about our human rights and freedom of choice?

In my opinion, this government is getting like the n**i's dictating to us, telling us what is good for us when we all have our own thoughts.

I am a law abiding citizen with nothing to hide, but I think a  DNA database is another move towards big brother, as is CCTV on every lamp post and ID cards. They are already bugging peoples homes and listening in on telephone conversations and taxing us out of existence, ...they are seeing how far they can go before we all retaliate, ...which we will, eventually. The British public can only take so much!

Fine! ...If you want to donate a sample of your DNA it's your choice, but when they make a law saying it is compulsory (without putting it to a vote) then we have lost our democracy.

It will only be a matter of time before they will be selling your body parts without your permission. They will be killing people for their hearts, lungs and livers. This country is heading that way.

  9. your kidding me right?

have you been dead to the world this past month!!

the government run organizations have "lost" or mislaid so many details of people, with ID fraud at such a height, do you really trust them not to loose our details?

And if ID via dna is possible, then that makes ID theft even more likely, all someone needs is a strand of your hair, a tissue you have blown your nose on... bin raids will rise and id theft with it.

If you seriosuly think DNA data should exist you really need to open your eyes.

  10. I have plenty to hide. I would not want to be put into the system and be accused of a crime just by simply leaving a piece of skin or a hair at a crime scene what all I did was walk by or be in the area.

The idea of having a central database of all DNA of all people in the world is very much Big Brother and smacks of a particular book. When we are require to do certain things to prove who we are and be able to do certain things, I will fight and realize that the Rapture is coming:

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name"

    —Rev. 13:16-17 (NIV)

  11. There is an assumption on your part that those that control the information are altruistic and will only use the information for the good of society.

The reality,  certainly for some people ( miscarriages of justice),  is that the authorities sometimes distort information for their own benefit.  The consequences can be devastating for some individuals.

thinking laterally-  and a minor example ..

hey !! you have the markers for a disease that may or not develop-  we don't want you employed by us as it increases our pension costs

  12. no not with the way our data is just left in the open for fraudsters to use it

wait till your ID has been abused by an ID thief

  13. i agree, i don't mind if the gov holds my DNA think of it this way if in the unlikely event you were murdered then they would a- know who it was and b- know who you were , so many murders would become solved. it would come almost impossible to get away with murder.why not give your DNA when you give consent to your images being recorded up to 20 times a day, the medical profession holds your records, the dentist hold your records so if you did do anything wrong they would catch you off that anyway so why not? i understand people saying that it should be a choice but why would you not want to help makes things easier and faster for the police when investigating.

  14. Nice idea, but open to misuse.

We really should not allow the Government to keep ANY databases because the security of the information is so often lost.

One of the advantages of basic criminal investigation, is that they have to start off with some basic information, and then may ultimately use DNA to see if their suspects might be the baddies.

If there was a DNA database available, the police are simply going to pull out a name that matches the DNA found at the crime scene, and would not bother to do any investigation to see if there was an innocent explanation for the person's DNA being present at the scene.

Tell a jury that the suspect's DNA matches DNA found at the scene, and you are pretty certain of getting a conviction, because we are forever being told it is indisputable evidence.

  15. Well, the "innocent until proven guilty", and the option of keeping silent to avoid incriminating one's self were established long before DNA reserach and it's use in crime investigations.  The burden of proof lies with the accuser, not with the defendant.  You don't have to put your personal business in a database, unless you want to, but you certainly don't have to do so in advance.  Although, there are times when one must be bonded for certain jobs, and they have your fingerprints on file, again, it is up to you to do so.  If you do not wish to submit your fingerprints, you don't have to take the job, so other than cases where it is a prerequisite for a certain reason, you can't force anyone to do that.  Remember, we don't all like that fact that criminals have rights, too, but it's one of the precautions built into the system to avoid prosecuting an innocent individual.  The system isn't perfect, but no one has been able to come up with anything better.

  16. If you personally have nothing to hide...

I think you should set up a live webcam in every room in your home and workplace for 24 hour constant monitoring of your every move.

You must find this acceptable as you have 'nothing to hide' do you...?

  17. in some instances I would agree with you... however, there are some people who have two different types of DNA, and they would be unfairly excluded or included in possible homicide cases and the like.  These people are called chimeras.  It is a condition when two eggs are fertilized in the womb, and instead of creating two individuals, it creates one.  If the embryos totally merge, then it produces a chimera, which is someone that is actually two people's DNA.  People who are comprised of two embryos that are of different genders, would then be born a hermaphrodite, and this is really the only instance when a chimera is discovered, when there is some physical attribute that would distinguish them from others.  People that are comprised of two embryos of the same s*x would seem normal, which in reality were a merge of two different people, and they would have intertwined sets of DNA running throughout their body, in some tissues, and not others.  Thus making them vulnerable in the idea you propose... So, my answer would be no.

  18. It's a matter of privacy.  Having DNA placed in a database just because is illegal and absolutely an invasion of privacy.

  19. and who will use all that info? OK, u don't have anything to hide. Me too. But I don't like to have spy at every single corner in my life CCTV, DNA data base.... Crime is going up and mostly it is made by someone without a trace

  20. If you really believe that go and volunteer YOUR DNA.

I try to avoid complicating factors in my day to day life.

But can you really be sure to know what it will be used for? I'm sure in practice it differs from your idealistic thoughts.

  21. Why?
