Why isn't deoxyribose an acid in aqueous solution?

  1. deoxyribose is a sugar that makes up the backbone of DNA, the acidic property of DNA comes from phosphate ions in the backbone, which interact with the environment, making DNA acidic

    (there are also base pairs in DNA that may counteract some of the acidity, but they are in the interior of the molecule so i don't think they can really express their basic properties)
