  2. Unfortunately, the only way to get it done for free is to go on a talk show and thats probably not the best way to handle the situation. Yeah, it may be free, as in the monetary sense, but it will cost you your self respect and probably be somewhat humiliating. Thats why they do it. If you aren't the type to allow public humiliation, they will probably not want you on their show.

Now, you could most definately shop around, see who does it and (of course, reliability is key as well) pick the lab that will do it for the best price.

Is your dad ok with all of this? Was he the one who actually told you that he might not be your bio dad?

Was it some other source? Do you trust that source?

I think, before you go to the point of testing, you also need to be sure you truly want to know. I mean, understandably, there is the initial shock. All at once you want the absolute truth, because after all, you may have been being lied to for years. But some people, once they give it some time to sink in, start to think about whats next? I mean, will it change anything? Your Mom is gone, so you don't have the opportunity to ask her why she did what she did, now you are just stuck guessing. Not going to get any solid answers there.

The man who you have called "Dad", the one who may or may not truly be your father. Was he a good dad, love you, protect you, provide for you? if he was always there for you and did the best he could, you gotta consider this in the mix too. Will it change your relationship?

What if he isn't your bio dad, do you even have an idea of where to start looking for your bio dad? A name? What if you find the guy, and he's a real butt, and then the guy who raised you is really hurt?

Whatever you choose, I hope it works out for you. I just wanted to mention these things to get you thinking. Like I said, this is probably kinda raw and emotions are high. Unless you have a reason you absolutely NEED to know (health issues, etc) immediately, maybe its good to just kinda digest it all and give yourself sometime to make a choice based on reasoning instead of emotions.

    Good luck!
