DNR made a chemical to KILL rough fish, but it also killed other species in the water. WHY would they do this?

One year we found these signs saying that they put something in the water.

To kill all of the rough fish that were in there such as species of suckers and carp etc.

Doesn't add up DNR! I don't suggest you do this again.

After that year, fishing was never the same.

How are the DNR so sure other species were not affected?

The answer is,

IT DID KILL EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE LAKE TOO.

Only now, 7 years after some of the fish are returning.

For example: So KILL all the INNOCENT PEOPLE in the bank to get one robber?

  1. they are stupid

  2. It CAN be done properly but only under close to ideal conditions. I worked for the MA Fish Commission one summer and the job was to remove the rough and pan fish from a lake on Cape Cod. Rotenone was spread at the surface and sank down to but not through the thermocline, where temperature and density change rapidly. As I recall, we hauled out more than a ton of rough and pan fish and only one half-pound trout. The next day, a fisherman caught another trout (hook and line). A lot of people ate fish that first night.

If you know of a way to kill only rough fish under all conditions, I'd like to know it. Until that can be done, the only way to control the populations is to kill everything and restock.

  3. the problem is people will relocate rough or invasive fish into lakes that do not need these fish, sometimes done thru fishing with minnows.Anyways these rough fish can destroy a natural fish population in a land locked lake and that is why and when the DNR will come in and kill off a lake and restock it with the natural fish ie walleye or trout.Carp and suckers can be devastating to a lake as they are bottom feeders and will literally suck up all the eggs on a spawn bed and destroy a natural fish population in a few years. It is a necessary evil but one that needs to be done especially if people insist on introducing non native fish stocks to lakes

  4. I think white man does more damage to nature by trying to fix then if he were to just leave it alone.

  5. well, everyone hates the DNR, all they do is take peoples stuff away, sue them, ill be happy if you win, DNR stands for Dickheads Nucience Retards, like the DNR bought land across from us, and they put these extinct turtles across there, and if we run over one with the tractor, where fined, its not our dam fault they they got under the tractor

  6. Its not the first time, and I'm sad to say it won't be their last time proving how stupid they are.
