  1. This American happens to love and appreciate the history of the British Monarchy. I've studied it for such a long time, I should be an honorary member for God's sake!

<<<also loves the (s**y) accent of one particular Englishman..

While The U.K. isn't known for the artistic brilliance that the Italians and French seemed to perfect, it happens to have some of the most beautiful palaces and castles in all the world. My goodness, you ruled most of the world for an eternity!    One thing I'd most like to see before I die,  is The Tower of London. Wow, talk about historic monuments!   Great post by the way! Jen

  2. I think most European accents are very s**y! Maybe not the German accent- - Sorry my little sauerkraut's :)

  3. While i can respect England's traditions I must admit I don't love the concept of a Monarchy here in the U.S. It does seem that some Republicans here do love it. They love royalty. They seem to want a greater separation of higher and lower classes giving little attention to the middle class. They claim 'trickle down economy' works, but it's only good for the rich. Corporate greed has run amok, here in the USA.

As far as the accent goes, I think for most it has an educated or Shakespearean sound to it. In the film Spartacus, the slaves had American accents and the Romans sounded British.  Personally, I sometimes don't understand what's being said if the accent is too strong or the person is speaking too quickly. I'm a fan of Monty Python and Terry Gilliam films. Sometimes i miss what's being said.

I'm not sure which stereotypes you are referring to. But my exposure is somewhat limited. I've been a fan of the British Invasion and Beatles music. I like Gilliam, Douglas Adams, and many popular British actors. I have a copy of I Claudius, etc.. I visited London in the 80's. I haven't been living in a basement my whole life.

  4. I think the idea of the monarchy is nice and really cool...in England. I don't want it here because someone would go on a power trip and it would all just end badly. And I absolutely love British accents. I think they're so s**y. :)
