I know you do if going by air, but we're driving. Do we just need birth certificate (or will social security card suffice?) and drivers license?

  1. We go every year we had applied for our passports but hadn' t recieved them the border patrol said we didn't need them yet anyway and we drove also. we just had our birth certi.

  2. To drive to and from Mexico you must have your birth certificate and a photo I.D. unless you have a passport.  Passports will be required after June 1, 2009.  See site below.  A  S.S. card cannot be used as an I.D. and is not proof of citizenship....since there are so many stolen every year and so many fake ones in circulation.

  3. Yep -- and you darn sure need one to get back into the US again.

  4. You are correct--driver's license and birth certificate.  Not the social security card; that is not an accepted form of ID.

    This will change next summer.
