  1. Yes, that is active duty time.  Time spent in a delayed enlistment program does not.

  2. I BELIEVE THE SYSTEM STILL REQUIRES AT LEAST 180 DAYS OF ACTIVE DUTY SERVICE.

  3. Yes.

In fact,  there are a number of dates that you need to keep track of.

The day you raised your hand with the recruiter and took the oath is your pay date.   They use that to calculate how many years for pay.

The day you were authorized to leave your home of record and head for basic is your actually service start date,  and that is used to calculate time in service.   When you get 180 days in from that date,  you become eligible for GI Bill and other VA benefits,  assuming you do not go get yourself a dishonorable discharge,  which will cause you to lose everything.

Each time you get a promotion the date of the promotion is used to calculate time in grade.   That is important for future promotions as they promote based upon time in grade.   IE:  If 1000 guys are to be promoted to the next highest rank,  the one with the earliest promotion date for the previous promotion gets promoted first,  except in rare cases.   That way if you are senior to someone and you each get promoted on schedule,  you will remain senior to him forever.

  4. yes all your time counts once you graduate from basic..because we know people who made it just out of basic and into tech school and still qualified for some parts of the gi bill

  5. The day you show up to basic is when your time starts.
