  1. no, but europe will never be the same again.

  2. Anything is possible and I do mean anything. WWI was started simply because of an obscure archduke. I certainly hope there will never be a WW3.

  3. Nah.  Big major wars grow out of long term grudges held by a lot of people.

WWI was the result of a lot of things.  The actual spark was the killing of an heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne.  He was not a minor official.

The causes of WWI go back to British Mercantile policies of the 16th century and the slaughter of the thirty years war in the 17th century.

The U.S. and Russia are vying for control of the Eurasian mainland.  It's a game of chess played out between professionals.  WWI and WWII (which was just round two of the same conflict) was started by amateurs.

  4. leave it up to Bush and it may.

  5. Good question.

If the Georgia-Russia conflict ultimately leads to a US-Russia  conflict ... maybe.  That would not be good.

The US is treading as lightly as possible for now.  The Georgians seem to accept it as a given that the US will rush in to their aid ... but to do so would antagonize Russia.  Would the US want to do that?  I don't think so.

This whole business makes me uneasy.  I'm not at all happy to see Russia acting "Soviet", and I'm not entirely sure how the US fits comfortably into this scenario.

We sure as he** do NOT need another war.

  6. No, but if America or Israel bombs Iran THAT will lead to WW3.
